Plibrico Company is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager for its Research & Development department located in Chicago, Illinois. This position reports to the Vice President of Sourcing and Product Development.
Under the direction of the Vice President of Sourcing and Product Development, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for negotiating with vendors for the procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services for Plibrico.
Overall responsibility for all purchasing activities including inventory management.
Develops an overall vendor base which creates and sustains a competitive advantage.
Develop Purchasing strategies and selection of vendors – to include not only TCO (total cost of Ownership), but Risk of supply, and supplier performance reporting.
Develop Key Performance indicators to manage purchasing, inventory management, and supplier performance.
Evaluates and analyzes purchasing trends in the industry to identify opportunities for cost reductions and to forecast price and market trends for key commodities.
Negotiate and execute purchase orders or vendor contracts as needed to support the critical business needs.
Set, maintain and ensure adherence to purchasing policy.
Create and maintain new supply sources to replace inadequate suppliers, ensure commitment of supply, and continually reduce purchasing spend (PPV).
Manages materials savings initiatives in line with profit plan and overall business objectives.
Work with other departments related to purchasing.

Participate in meetings, conferences and trade shows to keep up with industry trends and network.
Adhere to environmental and safety regulations and acts in accordance to United States’ laws.

Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain or equivalent experience.
5+ years of purchasing experience in a face paced manufacturing environment.
Proficient with MS Excel.
Be able to develop and execute purchasing/commodity strategies and manage via CQSD (Cost, Quality, Service and Delivery).
Ability to read and understand company financial statements.
Strong commercial acumen and ability to make recommendations based on inventory levels, material cost and other commercial terms.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

Possess capability to make informed and timely decisions.
Must have strong mathematical and negotiation skills.
Refractory or other purchasing experience in a technical manufacturing environment.
CPIM or CPM certification, a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Professional office
