  5. Flues

Product Information: Plicast® Al-Shield™ 55 M KK is a 57% alumina, mullite based, low cement castable that incorporates a high temperature aluminum resistant additive system. As an aluminum resistant castable, this product was developed to solve structural applications issues in aluminum furnace areas which may be exposed to aluminum splashing and corundum growth, such as upper sidewalls and roofs. Typically, in these types of applications, to maintain elevated temperature strength and shock resistance, standard low cement castables are used. However, in some cases due to corundum penetration and expansion, Plicast Al-Shield 55 M KK is the better solution since it resists corundum attack and maintains hot strength. Summarized benefits include:

  • Good aluminum reaction/wetting and corundum resistance to 2000°F
  • Higher hot MOR from 1500°F to 2300°F as compared to other aluminum contact castables
  • Good hot load resistance
  • Excellent hot fracture resistance
  • Improved thermal cycling resistance
  • Can be installed by casting or pumping
